Epica is a Dutch metal band founded in 2002 by guitarist and keyboardist Mark Jansen after his departure from the group After Forever. Epica is known for its epic, symphonic sound, which combines elements of symphonic metal, gothic metal, and film music.
The band’s vocalist is Simone Simons, who is renowned for her powerful, wide-ranging vocals. Epica’s lyrics often address philosophical, religious, and literary themes, often inspired by the works of authors such as William Blake and H.P. Lovecraft.
